What should my boyfriend do with $100,000?
My boyfriend has two trust funds. When his grandparents died, they gave their son (his father) a trust fund, and when my boyfriends dad died from cirrhosis of the liver when he was 10, he inherited that trust. Now, he's 22, and within the next few months he's supposed to receive roughly $100,000 from one trust. He's not sure what to do with it. He all about INVEST INVEST INVEST! And I said that he should at least donate, or do something positive, and helpful with some of it, even if it's just $100, but he's not for that AT ALL! He said his family wouldn't be very happy if they knew he spent their money on charity. what? I think donating, and caring about those less fortunate is admirable! He says I'm just a big humanitarian, but it really bothers me he wont do something for someone else with even just $100 dollars. Am I wrong?? What do YOU think he should do with the money? Invest all? Some? Donate some? (this is not his only trust keep in mind, and he'll get his mothers in time too)

If he is just 22, he should consider buying GOLD.

in 1920 a U.S. bill 20$ would buy you a good suit and a great tie.
in 1920 an ounce of GOLD would buy you a good suit and a great tie..

in 2008 a U.S. bill 20$ would barely buy you a decent tie.
in 2008 an ounce of GOLD would buy you a suit, a tie, a little dress for your wife, and supper for both of you just before you go to a nice hotel for the night.

At the rate things are going now.......
in 2040..... when your boyfriend needs to retire, a U.S. 20$ bill either won't be accepted by anyone and probably won't be worth worth the paper it is printed on.

buy GOLD.

$100,000 was a lot of money 40 years ago but not today. let him put $80,000 in a high yield savings and the rest in a regular savings for emergency. It is insured to $100,000 by FDIC Don't let the bank talk him into a mutual fund because they will make a bigger commission.. As far as the stock market, it's a carcer he should keep away from.

Happy go Lucky:)
I personally wouldn't donate to any major organization. Maybe a local animal shelter that's about it. Give something to an organization where the CEO's don't make $200,000 a year. I would help a a freind in need if I had one. I think if people are "less fortumate" they should change there lives into what it could be, not look for hand outs. A hurricane, flood victum, something traggic.....yeah. But that's about it! He should invest. At the least get in in a savings so he can collect intrest on at LEAST half of it.

Well not to sound aggresive but yes in a sense you are a little out of line because it is his money, and if u love him u would let him make his own choice because he has to see your side own his own with you telling him what he should do will make him angry like you r trying to control him . but you r right he should donate or as long as he pays his dues in church he is fine. just let him know how u feel but dont keep pushing him because it has to be something he wants to do or he will keep making excuse like his parents wouldnt be thrill if they found out when really who is going to tell them there are alkind of ways to give your blessing and the best thing he could do is invest 10% or 15% of his money into something that will gain him more money and what he gain from his investments he could then possibly donate 1000 to some charity that is if he is up to it .it is his money and he has to answer to no one about where and how he spends his money. so just be supportive of what ever he do men like that and he might just do it to please you. hey u never know

It's his money. Let him decide what he wants to do with it. Don't argue with him about this since it's really not your concern, nor is it ours.

You just got Amered! :P

first of all...........if he needs something like transportation or place to live or any other necessities well use the money for that...... but if everything is assured for him the good thing to do is donate a percentage of the money to trust funds and the rest to invest or keep in the bank

I think he should donate some of that money to charity and invest and save that money because when you have 100K you should spend it wisely

dinomail_9000
ok, it is good to keep and to give. I'd say give 10% to the charity and invest the rest of it.

your boyfriend should do whatever he pleases because it's his money, not yours. if he doesnt want to donate now and he invests it, maybe in the future he will. right now the thought of all that money is most likely making him feel greedy, but when the realization of the money actually arrives, he'll know whats best for his money.

for me he should put in saving account for a while and because his age at this time 22 he is not yet mature to handle a money and when time is come and he already mature knowledgeable about money that is the time to use the money in business. and i recommend either of you study about business. good luck

Live Like No One Else
I would donate 10% and get out of any debt and after that he should feel free to save as much as he wants starting with a ROTH IRA

txpuddinpie
He should invest it. He doesnt really want to give any to charity and whats the use if his heart isnt in it. Maybe one day he will change his mind!

Bruce J
Donate???? Are you NUTS???!!!

Let's say that he invests this money, and doesn't touch it until he retires. He will be a multi-millionare, with plenty of money to donate. So, which is better...donating $100 now or a million in 40 years?
