assuming it's worth anything by the time I get it in June....probably either bank it or pay some bills. |

Well, since it is money that is NOT FREE, I shall put it into an interest bearing account where I can make it work for me to produce more. On the following years taxes, I just cannot wait to see how they take it back from me. I think of it like a cork being placed in a sinking ship's breached hull, just a matter of time till it pops out again! It is not the right answer for a sick economy!!! |

The purpose of the check is to maybe boost the economy a bit because many people are just going to go out and spend it.
But it is not free money. It will be coming out of your next years taxes.
So the smart person is going to put it into an account seperate from the one they use day to day and forget about it. Like a savings account, an IRA or a CD. |

This is for everyone who keeps saying we will have to payback our stimulus check. This is straight from the IRS website. There have also been several news articles released disproving that the 2008 stimulus is an advance on next year's refunds:
Q. Is my stimulus payment taxable?
A. No. You will not owe tax on your payment when you file your 2008 federal income tax return. But you should keep a copy of the IRS letter you receive later this year listing the amount of your payment. In the event you do not qualify for the full amount this year but you do next year, you will need to have the letter as a record of the amount you previously received.
Q. Will the payment I receive in 2008 reduce my 2008 refund or increase the amount I owe for 2008?
A. No, the stimulus payment will not reduce your refund or increase the amount you owe when you file your 2008 return.
Since I don't have to worry about repaying this stimulus like everyone is shouting, I plan on using it to buy my college books. Not real exciting, but better the gov'ts money than mine! |

the stock market is cheap right now.
Since this is money we've already paid to Uncle Sam, there's no reason to spend unless you want to. Don't spend it because Bush says so. |
