Oh, I wish! :-)
You ask what ~I~ would do with it, as opposed to suggestions to what ~you~ might do with it. I'd have a good holiday - I haven't had one in a few years due to caring for the elderly folk in my family.
But, hypothetically speaking. If I were well-off enough not to ~need~ the money, I'd give it to the local children's hospice.
If I had long-term plans, I'd put it in an ISA or high-interest savings account.
If I already had Unit Trust funds that were performing quite well, I'd add to those.
If I owned my own property, I'd think about improving it in some way if the bathroom, kitchen, windows and doors needed replacing, for instance.
But I'm in my fifties and worried about my retirement; if I were considerably younger I think I might just spend it! |

Take my clothes off and hope they are gentle and quick!
I would take my son skiing and get him a new DS as the dog chewed his. I would do nothing with the money-I'd just spend it on him. He is a very well behaved boy (I dunno why!) and he deserves it. |

That depends why they were offering it in the first place.
First I'd say thank you & if I accepted it I'd probably finish off all the renovating & decorating I've been doing on my new house. My funds have unfortunately run a little dry at the present.
Ooh, I could also buy a newish car and get rid of the heap o'junk I got now.
That should just about do it for now..

If I were younger I would invest it, but now I'm older I regret having small savings, they take me just outside the barrier to claiming council tax and housing benefits that my neighbours claim because they spent the money the had left over from their basic weekly earnings on gambling, in the pub, sometimes on the pleasures of life and on tobacco.
I would use the £5000 to do an economy tour of the world. |
