I would hope that there was no ID inside so I could keep it with a clear conscience. No, but seriously, I would return it to the person it belonged to because I would hope someone would be honest enough to do the same for me. |

Go to the police station and leave it there. I don't want someone else's $500.
Otherwise, I'd check the driver's licence, and go through the phone book til I found the owner. Then I'd return their wallet. But the police station is a much less labour intensive option. |

If there's any ID in there you try to contact the owner and give it back. And if he/she has any class they give you $50. Then you're $50 richer than you were with a clear conscious. |

I would try to locate the person by telephone if they are listed. If not, I would turn it into the police department.
Someone found my wallet once, and left it at the police dept.
You can't imagine my elation to discover not one dime was missing. I never met that person, but their kindness was never forgotten. |

Return it, if you know who the owner is, otherwise, hand it in to the police, and let them settle it.
Just remeber to put yourself in their shoes. And how would you feel if you lost your wallet and knew you had that much money in it. You would want it back as soon as possible with everything in it that was there when you lost it. |

If there is an ID with an address, and the person lives somewhere where it looks like they can afford a $500 loss, I'd keep the money. I've lost money/made bad decisions, and I've never had the luxury of good Samaritans coming along. If they look poor, like $500 is a lot of money to them, I'd return it. |
