I'd retire.
Seriously, if you're only 16, I would definitely use the money to go to college/university. Even if you don't plan on working, having an education is always a good thing, in my opinion.
Buy a house, and a nice car or two. It couldn't hurt to buy yourself some nice toys (fancy TV, computer, maybe a boat, etc.), but don't go overboard or you'll find that your money is all gone surprisingly fast. $45mil is a lot of money, but it can disappear pretty fast if you aren't careful.
At such a young age, it would probably be very boring to "retire," so you could always start your own company once you're done school, if you're willing to risk some of your money. You could also volunteer for a charity or something. Since you don't need the money, there would be nothing to stop you from donating your time (and maybe some of your money) to a worthy cause.
Are you an artist or a writer at all? With that kind of money, you could spend all your time focusing on your art. That's a dream for a lot of artists. If you're one of them, you now have the freedom to pursue it.
There is a lot you can do with $45 million dollars. But, it's also easy to blow it all very quickly if you're not careful.
Of course, if you wanted, you could always give some to me. I'd be happy with just $1 million in exchange for this valuable advice that I'm giving you! LOL |

YOUR STORY IS FULL OF BULL. A settlement for minors always go into some kind of blocked or trust account for their benefit unitl they reach 18 years of age. And you can't just "gave them 5millon of it" already.
Another thing, If you have 45 MILLON DOLLERS, you wouldn't be here asking these questions. |

For some reason I'm thinking you're not telling the truth, but if you are.... get with your parents and go to to a financial advisor. You should be investing the majority of that money. You're young though so set aside a million to keep you living the life! Don't drop out of school even though you'll never have to work again. Pursue a career that truly interests you. Watch out for "friends". They'll be crawling out of the woodwork. |

ummm what kind of an accident was this?
how much of the 50 million were you really awarded by a court? not the full 50 cause i doubt you'd still have the facilities to type if you were... and even if you died.... still not 50 mil. |

Go get counseling. Unless you posted this for a goof you have some big problems. If it is a goof it's not a bad one. You fooled a lot of people. |

Splurge a little, Kudos for sending a little to Mom and Dad, Invest the rest. If you were injured in the accdent you could have problems later in life that won't be covered under insurance, since they are pre existing. Find a good investment firm to help you manage your money. You don't want to be like one of those people who win the lotto and go broke in a year. |

I would save most of it for college or something that might come up but don't spend it all in one place! |

Be careful. You need a trusted business adviser, and an attorney. The last thing you need is for someone to cheat you. If you are smart, you will find a way to get several businesses going, and with that be able to hire people to run them. Next, finish your education, and go to college. Look, you don't need to spend it, rather use it as a money making tool.
By the way, hows your health? |

For the time being, start putting it in yearlong add in CD's. Goto college, and learn to invest it. Till then, put them in multiple add in CD's as to earn major interest. One more thing, watch your friends, they're moochers. When you need help, they won't be there. Good luck. |

I would buy a house with a lot of acreage and a new truck then I'd put all the rest of it into savings or investment accounts and live off of the interest while I went to vet school. In your case go to college and learn all about how to handle money, then continue your education in whatever field most appeals to you. You have an opportunity not many people ever get. Use your money wisely and it will take care of you and your family for a very long time to come. |

Do not tell anyone anything about your money. Do not share any information with your friends or family. It's funny how Aunt Sally from 1835 with one foot out of the grave knocks on your door to share a sob story along with a smile and a glass of poison. I am surprised your parents have not directed you. "The love of money is the root of all evil". I would donate some it to a charity that is reputable. It is a tax write-off. First and foremost, you need to contact a financial planner and he will advise you on what to do. You will probably need to set up some kind of trust so that only you and you alone can touch that money. If you play your cards right, you can be set for life...God bless you. |
