dave slater | What would you do with £500,000 if you had it? |
When asked the question, people always say they would spend it on their family and friends and then what's left they would spend on themselves so i guess my question is, truthfully, how much do you think you would spend on yourselves of the half a million and what would you acquire?
I can tell you if i had that money my first acquisation would be a brand new set of drums and zildijan cymbals.
I would give some to cancer research too because two family members have died from cancer. |

I would convert it to Euros. At the rate the pound is falling, I would have a considerable increase in capital in no time. |

I would buy a lovely family house in a nice area and a good reliable car and then I would put the rest in savings and wait until I need it. |

I would buy a 2 bed house, spend a little money renovating, i would learn how to drive and buy myself a mini cooper. Buy some new furniture, brand new wardbrobe full of clothes, take my daughter to disneyland. Give my ex some so he can pay off his debts and the rest would eb spend as and how needed. To be honest, i'd give enough to my parents where they could buy something nice but not more then £10,000. I have my own family now. |

Pay off the mortgage and other debts, 100k to parents, buy a car (about 25k) give 10k to charity and then save the rest and hopefully have a much easier and less stressful life than I do now. |

I would keep £400,000 because I would want to make sure that my children, grandchildren etc would be well looked after when I kick the bucket.
I would get 2 massive big bungalows - one in Wales and the other in America with an indoor heating swimming pool. Buy a lush new car. Get a maid (especially to do the ironing!) and a chef. Go touring over America. Then reduce my work to part-time - coz I couldn't stand to be at home all the time on my own! And I would then spread the other £100,000 between my family.
I wouldn't give any to charity, because once you start giving to one, the others will expect the same.. and it then turns into a vicious cycle!
Ohhhhh... one day!!! |

I would put it into the highest interest account I could find (not that easy at the moment), and give myself time to figure out the best things to do with the money. I'd prioritise i.e pay off any debts, mortgage first, then decide what was most important to me. Future retirement plans, child's education, great holidays. I think its important to look to the future and short term at the same time. It's so important not to blow it all. Just think how it could grow in 10 years if it was invested in gold, or art - (not the stock market!!). |
