Invest it.
Meet with a financial advisor and invest it, make money off the interest. It only takes $100K to start really appreciating life. But with half a mil you can almost quit your day jobs or at least go part time. A good fund can generate a 12% return. That's 78,000 per year or more.
Make sure you do a good background check on your financial advisors, and do medium risk, not high risk.
Best of luck on that.
Oh and donate 10% of that if you feel weird about it. Lots of good Cancer causes you can donate to, and it's a tax write off. Do it every year, and you can afford to continue to live well (even at 78K a year, 10% of that is $7,800). You'll feel better about it when you're doing that every year. |

purchase about 160 acres of farmland in southern minnesota or northern iowa, the ethanol production has driven land rebnts way up to nearly 180 bucks per acre per year, you could potentially get up to 180 acres for this amount actually. look on the web. |

My husband and I would pay off our 2 credit cards, put some aside for our daughters college fund, buy a home, and 2 more reliable vehicles. The rest I would invest. I definitely wouldn't quit my job. I'm too young and I love my job. My husband says he would stay at his job- he likes his, too. Wow- aren't we weird- we like our jobs. Anyway- be careful when finding a financial planner/advisor. Some are quite greedy. And make sure you do something to better man kind. Good Luck! Have fun! |

Wow - how lucky.
First of all, get a good accountant/attorney. Check out any tax consequences first.
If I had that much, I'd buy a house, finance my sons' college tuitions, invest some of it and take a trip to someplace exotic. |

I would invest in land just on the outskirts of town. Buy up several hundred acres. Spend lets say 500,000 on the land. Now here's the trick...sit on it. This land is undeveloped and when town grows up big enough wait for the highest resale value. I could see plenty sub-divisions or commercial property. If you want to further improve your invest meantime. Open it for hunting grounds for a price on your property. Oh and for the other 150,000. Put this amount into a savings account and use it to pay the taxes on the land. You could spend a bit and pay off some outstanding bills as well. |

-Personally, I would invest a good chunk of it, but if I didn't spend SOME then I would feel like I missed out.
-If I had any debt, I would pay it to avoid interest charges.
-I would help my parents get a new house.
-I would go make a few once-in-a-lifetime memories by staying in another country for a month or two.
-I would buy a used car (new ones have an unnecessary extra cost when you can get a slightly used one for much less).
-I would upgrade to healthy foods so I could live longer.
Those are the basics. Definitely invest though. |

Run, don't walk, to a fee only (no commission) financial advisor. (Maybe to two or three so you get different portfolio plans.) You don't say how old you are but, invested wisely (conservatively-not speculatively), that 650K could double in the next ten years and that could double again in the next 20 years giving you around $2.5 million if you leave the principle alone to grow for that 20 year period. With $2-$2.5 million, you could have an income of 100K per year (or more) without ever spending any of your principle. |
