What would you have done?
The cashier at my bank made a mistake this morning and put into her computer that I had paid in £7000 in stead of £70.I didn't check the paying in receipt until I got home and I went straight back and told them what had happened. What would you have done?

Would have said nothing, just to see what happens next!

would've gone back and correct the mistake, its called honesty ...
besides, all the cameras around the bank wouldhad caught the mistake
i did it once at petco, she gave me $10.00 extra for change. as i walked out, i noticed so i came in backin the store and gave her the money.

I would have done the same thing.

They would have caught it eventually......as the drawer was ₤6930 off......

I would do the same. Your action was a reflection of your believe. Your conscious thanks you. Always listen to your heart. You will not be mislead. The world needs more people like you.

I wouldnt have said anything, but then again banks always pick up on errors like this, I've read stories about people who get excited with extra money in their bank, then they go and spend it and by the end of the day they are overdrawn because the bank error has been picked up.

bull_rooster_aardvark
The same - they would've figured it out on their own and come after you if you had spent the money. No reason not to tell them what happened and honesty is the best policy.

I am a very honest person, but if I was in your shoes I would have kept the money. Especially being an unemployed, single mother of three boys. Reason being I would have been able to get my cable reconnected, diapers, household supplies, groceries, a 2000 used Dodge Intrepid for $2700. I would have also helped someone else in need.

The same thing happened to my mum - she did'nt realise though and within an hour the bank had called her

Every transaction is filmed on CCtv so if there is an error the know right away which cashier did what with and with how much. You would'nt have got very far I'm afraid

chevyman727
I would have done the same as you did.. They say honesty is the best policy

Leah
I would have done the same thing as you. The cashier would have caught the error at the end of the day when (s)he was balancing anyway, but you saved them some time in trying to locate the error.

I would probably tell them, it would cause the cashier no end of grief and they will probably trace the error to your account eventually. Also to keep the money would upset your karma.

I would have done the same thing you did. I always tell cashiers if I've been under-charged or given too much change.

I was once pumping gas after swiping my credit card, and there was some kind of glitch in the computer, and I couldn't print a receipt. I wrote down the amount I spent and the date so I could dispute them if I got charged twice, but instead I wasn't charged at all! I went into the station after I got my credit card statement and told them what happened and paid what I owed. The manager told me they could see from their records that two people got gas without being charged (they even knew the amounts but not the credit card numbers). Needless to say, they were very thankful (and surprised) that I came in to pay them.

It all comes down to being able to live with yourself.

would have booked a nice week away

Same as you, they would have wanted it back anyway. I would hate to have made some body lose their job.
