its a con so they can get your bank account details and then rip you off. |

I have tried to help some companies whose checks I received by sending the checks to the company and letting them know that their accounts had been compromised. They closed their accounts and were saved from the scam, but there was no government law enforcement agency that would assist with the capture of the criminals..
The scam has several different ways to work on you, if you take your commission and forward the rest to them, then you have committed check fraud and will be liable for the total amount of money stolen by the scammers by that check. They will also be able to get your bank information and can perpetuate the scam using your bank account later.
You can take the check to the local police, but there is not much they can do, since they have no jurisdiction outside the U.S. Incidentally, neither do the F.B.I. These criminals operate using emails and cell phones and change things often enough that it is nearly impossible for them to be caught. The best defense is to educate and forewarn the public so that there can be no unwitting accomplices in this scam.
If you are to the point that they are calling you, turn them away by telling them that the police have contacted you and that you are in trouble. How can you contact them to help you get out of it.
They won't call you again. |

1) The check will bounce - count on it
2) You will be entirely responsible to the bank for the ENTIRE amount
3) You may be prosecuted by the bank
4) Your credit rating may be destroyed
5) Potential advantages to you - NONE |

This is like a text book case of the most obvious form of fraud. Ignore the email or report to police website regarding internet fraud as I did. |

delete it or report it, it is a scam love, all those sort of emails are regrettably just rotten cons, don't fall for them. |

your reply must be "Go forth and multiply!"
It's a con, they'll pressure you to send the money fast and then the cheque will bounce leaving you thousands of pounds overdrawn.
They'll say pay in this £10k cheque, keep £500 for yourself and send me £9500 to account whatever (or cash) the cheque will then bounce and leave YOU £9500 overdrawn!!
Why would someone give you £500 for nothing? Why wouldn't thay pay a genune cheque through their own account?
IT'S A SCAM. |

Tear the cheque up NOW. This person is trying to get you to assist in money laundering which is a serious crime. Have nothing to do with it. The money is dirty, almost certainly gained from criminal activity. I cant warn you strongly enough against having anything to do with these people. |

It's definitely a con.
I work in a bank and have seen it many times. Remember the cheque can still bounce after your bank has made the funds available (normally 3 working days) |

No contact under any circumstance, and follow up letters should be dealth with as above.

You have to be stupid not to recognise this scam.
Once you have given them the money, the cheque will be found to be stolen and taken from your account leaving you in big doo da. |

This is a freud and you should contact the police department so that these scams can be stopped. Many older people are being scammed by these crooks and sweepstakes. We need to put an end to this. If it is too good to be true and to easy then it is probably a scam. |
