REMEMBER THIS EQUATION FOREVER:
a% of b = c
a/100 = c/b always, always
Therefore: 20/100 = c/60 and by cross multiplication, you get...
(20 x 60)/100 = c = 12 that is $12
Tell your teacher the equation, she'll fall off her chair. She doesn't know it!!

Here:
First, you need to know that 100% = $60
Ok, so what is 20% of $60?
Since 100% = $60, you need to find 1% of $60 and then multiply the answer by 20%. So here's the working :D
100%= $60
1% = $60/100
20% = ($60/100) x 20%
= $12
So, 20% off of $60 would be actually saying $12 off $60. :D
So to find the final answer, it would be:
$60- $12 = $48

rememebr this:
'a' times 'c' and divide it by 'c' = 'x' <-------- very simple.. you just need to memorize it and you're set for life
'a' times 'c' will give you some number. Right? Then you have to take the number you got from multplying 'a' by 'c' and you must divide that number by 'b' and this is how you'll get your 'x'.
So in your case:
a = $60
b = 100% (because $60 is all you have so, it your' 100%)
x is unknown to you
c = 20% (it's 20% becasue that's your 'x' .. x is that dollar amount you want to know.. that's 20% of your $60)
$60 = 100%
$x = 20%
So we don't know what's behind 'x'. Right?
You have to find that 'x' so:
x = 60 times 20 and divided by 100 = 12
If you can remember this you won't need anyone's help anymore. It's very simple and if you can remember the formula below you'll always know the answer to this type of a question.
