There are so many services needed by the elderly, that family members do not want to do.
Go to your local trade school and get a certificate for doing nails, toe nails in particular.
Next locate people visiting the elderly in their homes, such a registered nurses, speech therapists, exercise therapists, etc etc etc.
Meet with the nurses if possible, propose that they refer you to needy clients for a fee. Most professional nurses will decline to accept the fee however will refer you for nothing if they like you.
A good price for doing nails in the home is $50. They charge $35 to come out and let you into your car when you are locked out. That takes 2 minutes. So to actually do something, I think $50 is about right however you make have to negotiate and charge based on the ability to pay.
For doing the toenails, which can be like iron, visit Home Depot and look at the small steel files. Some of the steel files are the right shape for toenails and steel will make quick work of the hardest toenails. Filing is safer than cutting because of the possibility of injury when cutting, plus they do not make small scissors strong enough to get through the "iron" toenails. However a small steel file will go through them like hot butter.
Suppose you need about $2000/month. At $50 per job, you will need to do about 40 nail jobs per month. Remember this is a cash business - no paychecks.
Medicare pays podiatrists (foot doctors) about $130 to do nails in a nursing home. However if you can get into several nursing homes, you might only have to work several days per month. |
