There aren't any easy ways to save money. It takes real self control to save.

Set up a detailed budget of all you expenditures. Keep track of your spending as you spend it. Credit card charges should be considered as spend when you charge the item not when you pay the credit card bill. Better yet, charge very little.

Put money in your saving first before you do anything else. Pick a fixed amount and do it every payday.

This is the plan I followed and I retired before I was 60 and my wife and I have no money worries.

Live within your means and you should be able to save.

Take 10% right off the top of what you earn and put into a savings until you can buy a Savings Bond. They have the highest rate of interest and you almost have to leave them alone to mature.

If you take the 10% right off the top, you can pretend that you only earn whats left....its a mental trick suggested by motivational speakers for finance.

I suggest you add to the amount deducted by the government as well. The additional money won't earn interest but when you get your tax check back, it will be there, nice and safe for you. Then, buy a CD with the check. Get the highest interest possible.

If you want to make your money earn money, invest in Mutual Funds but do so with the idea that it is a slow earn just like anything that is safe.

Start small and keep adding to it. Start with your pocket change, then add a dollar a day and then add five dollars a week. Five plus seven dollars and all your change and before you know it you have several hundred dollars.

by not spending it. you are not ever going to be able to buy it all anyhow so why even try? just make good choices. one way that works well for me is that i can want an investment as much as i can want to buy a car or something. choose to invest your money carefully in things you are interested in. while you will certainly lose money on some investment along the way, that's not a bad thing - just a little more knowledge.

Get a water cooler bottle, aka a carboy, and put all your silver colored change in it, every day do not spend it.

After one year, count it, sort it and put it into a high-yield savings account NOT linked to your MAC card.

If you have employee sponsored savings or direct deposit, have one or two percent of your paycheck go into a separate savings account. When it hits $2000, put it into long term CDs.

It depends a lot on what you are trying to save for. The longer you can go without your money, the more options you have.
