Minimum wage.
And even that is not a true answer. If I was in a desperate financial situation, I would work for nearly any wage.
I earn well, but that does not mean I can throw an outlandish figure. Why? I do not have enough money in the bank at 24 to support myself for the rest of my life. So what does that mean? If no one was willing to pay me more than minimum wage, I would have to take a job at minimum wage.
If I was fire tommorrow, I would likely not take a job below $25-30/hr. Why? That is my current rock bottom wage. I have enough money in the bank to live 6-8 months without pay and if things got really rough, I can always move in with my folks. But lets say no one was willing to pay me more than minimum wage, and 2-3 years went by without me finding a job. In such a situation, I would be forced to accept a lower wage.
Now let us make an assumption that I moved outside the United States to a 3rd world country. Additionally, let us assume that the country had no minimum wage and that I had no opportunity to return to the United States. If the only job offered to me was for 1 dollar an hour, and if I had to take that job or starve, I would work for 1 dollar an hour.
So what are you asking? What is the rock bottom pay I will accept today? Or what is the rock bottom pay I would accept when I am desperate? The numbers will differ drastically. |

I wouldn't work for less than the minimum wage of course but I think that to make employees feel valued, companys should pay them over it. For example, at the shop I work at we get 10p above the mimimum wage. Then again, we feel undervalued because we don't get paid for overtime (for example if a coach load of 50 people came in 5 mins before closing and we have to work over our contract time) and 3 of us are doing the work that should be shared by 4 employees because the shop manager refuses to take on enough staff. I think wages AND conditions should be taken into account because good conditions can make up for a lower wage. Sorry to go on for a long time. Hope this helps. |

Depends on the job and the skills required.
Thank goodness for the minimum wage. I still think the minimum basic wage for any job should be £7.50 per hour.
Why is it that domestic work..Cleaning etc, is one of the lowest paid. It is such a hard job, when done properly. |
