Not all in one wallet, or even one pocket, but I once had to walk 350 meters to the bank with 150,000 (and change) pounds sterling (almost $300,000 these days). The best bit is I was one of 4 guys, all with about the same cash, strolling across a square in Istanbul, having been quite stunned to have a client show up at our meeting to pay the deposit on a new software deal with cash in hand to pay us in a hotel lobby.
We needed the deal, so we played it poker faced, accepted the payment and trusted the clients assurance that the amount was right.
We then spent 5 hours in the bank as they checked every note for validity and then checked the serial numbers against the EU list of stolen currency.
It was completely insane. Never again. |

Only eight grand (sterling!), personally, that I was paying on a car, and I was very pleased to hand it over I can tell you.
Did you know you can't hand cash to car sales guys these days 'cos of money laundering and stuff? It's great fun to offer them cash and watch them get all itchy.
While we're on the subject, we used to count cash to pay people with when I worked for Her Maj's lot, and regularly had 4 or 5 hundred thousand piled up. That was fun. That much money has a distinctive smell to it; it's great.
I was on £50 a week at the time, and I often used to look out of the window and wonder how far I'd get with an armful. |
