It's best to put your account number on the back of the check. It helps if and when research has to be conducted. If there is an incident which occurs and the deposited check is not credited to your account, having the account number on the back of the check will expedite the research process. Hope this information helps. |

I have only had to put my account # on checks if I am cashing them and not depositing them. If you are depositing it, you should have a deposit slip with your account # on it. |

When endorsing a check you just need to sign the back of it. Signing the check gives the bank permission to collect the funds from the check writer.
If the check is deposited unsigned the bank teller or the person who checks the teller's work will stamp the back of the check (which the bank takes as a signature).
Many people like to write "For deposit only" and their account number on the back of their checks for security reasons.
The bank puts ID and your account number on the check if you are cashing it. |

That is determined by the person who cashes the check. My regular bank requires a "thumbprint" on each check that is cashed. At my Credit Union, they like my signature and then my account number. |
