You are not a slave. You do not owe anyone else in the world more than you owe yourself. If you do not create a solid foundation of savings for yourself, you will never get ahead, you will never be able to help others, but in fact will need others to help you by borrowing from them.
There are dozens of the wealthiest people around that will tell you the same thing. But, it's not just if you want to be wealthy - you must save if you are going to have any chance of survival at all.
Sure, bills are a burden and it's a terrible feeling when you can't quite pay all your obligations. BUT- if you ever want to be in a position where you're not just "always paying the bills", then you must save! Pay yourself first. After awhile, you get to where you don't even miss the money going to your savings and you find bills getting easier and easier to pay.
Find and read this book: The Richest Man in Babylon
(a short read, about $4 paperback)

Yes.
I have my paycheck directly deposited into 2 different accounts (checking & savings).
I make sure enough money gets into my checking account to pay my monthly expenses, but I try not to put anything more than what is necessary into my checking account each month.
If your employer doesn't have direct deposit, you can easily set all of this up with online banking. |

I do, I do, I do. Religiously. Only way for you to get ahead. You go to USC? 40 large per year? Scholarship or got bucks? None of my or anyone's business. But if you come from some dough, ask your parents how they got where they are. If you don't, ask your schoolmate's parents. Many of them will tell you to notice the mistletoe over their backsides but someone will yelp. You need to know this stuff. |

Heres what I do. When you get your paycheck put at least 2/3 of it in the bank. Then use the rest to give out, or do whatever you want with it. |

Yes, all of my check goes into savings. This is because my husband and I live only on his check (he also puts a little away for his retirement). This isn't because we are rich. We don't have cable or cell phones, we use coupons, and we drive our cars a long time before we get new ones.
I find it annoying when people say that can't afford to save, or pay off bills, and then they are out buying desiner clothes every weekend. And they also buy brand new cars every 2 - 3 years and $4 coffee every morning. It all comes down on how you prioritize your finances. |
