Derek S | Where can I get a car loan? I have bad credit.? |
I have bad credit and need to get a car loan to get a car. Where can I apply for one? I want to get my credit back on track. |
|

Say What?

Have some co-sign on a loan with you. That and get a couple secured credit cards. In time you will rebuild your credit. |

If your credit is challenged don't go to a car lot! Instead try credit unions, save money by taking on a second job. Try down sizing your expenses cutting back on espresso take a sack lunch to work. Apply for a credit card and use that to purchase a car. If all else fails simply buy a bus pass or go shopping for a cheep used car a $1000.00 or less and pay cash.... Good Luck! |

If your credit is bad because you have not been paying your bills, and you are young, then you will have a hard time getting a car loan without a co-signer, or some money down.
I am the owner of www.1-800badcredit.com and you are welcome to come onto the site and see if one of my lenders can help you. I'd try Roadloans (if you want to buy from any dealership in town) or DriveTime (if you're in one of the states they sell cars in, they have their own lots).
Contrary to what the guy below says, buying a car CAN get your credit back on track. It's one of the most difficult loans to get though - because it's an item that goes down in value (which means the bank loses out if they have to reposes the car and resell it), and it makes you mobile (you can leave the state and cut off contact with them).
If you have a co-signer you can probably qualify for a loan (if their credit is good, not if it's as bad as yours). BUT, a co-signer is adding his name to the contract as an EQUAL partner to you, so every on-time payment is put in the plus column on both your credits, and a late payment is put in the negative column on both credits. So be nice and make every payment on time or you'll mess up their credit too.
Try to get a loan for around $10,000. Then find a nice, reliable car for that price range (maybe a Cavalier, Sentra, Aveo or Neon). Make 18 straight payments on-time and then try to refinance it (get another bank to take the loan for less interest) or trade it in. When a large debt is paid off on your credit it will jump your score up. And by trading it in you are "paying off" the debt.
Don't look for older cars, because they will have high miles and banks won't give you the loan on a car that is a mechanical risk. Look for something under 3 years old and under 50,000 miles. Even if it's not the perfect car, remember it's a "start." You won't be in it forever, but you have to crawl before you can walk.
I sold cars in Phoenix for 3 years and trust me, if you can get pre-approved you're better off. If your credit is bad often the dealerships don't even want to deal with you, and if they do they will treat you like they are doing you a favor to give you any car you can get. Pre-approval at least gives you some choices.
If you're trying to get your credit back on track, AND get a car loan, you might also consider a credit counseling service. They will consolidate all your credit card debt into one monthly payment over 3 years so you can pay off the cards. This way you'll be able to budget better for a car payment.
Whatever you do, NEVER, NEVER be late on a car or a house. This can ruin your credit for a long time. Banks figure that a person willing to risk their home and transportation are pretty much willing to flake on anything (cause you really need those things the most in life). So whatever happens always make the house and car payments.
Good luck to you! |

Don't get a car loan. If you honestly believe you can afford a $300/month car payment, then put $300 a month in a savings account for 3 months (just take the bus for 3 months), and you'll have enough to buy a car for cash. If you continue to make those "fake car payments", you'll either he enough money to cover any repairs, or you'' have enough to buy another car when you need it.
Debt is for dummies. |

worry about the bad credit later as long as you are paying your bills in full on time -- than you have to come up with about 20% for a down payment and find a car that has a loan value as much as the asking price-- most banks or credit unions will loan money to someone with bad credit with the car as security -- but remember no matter how old the car is you will have to have full coverage since you have a loan against the title!!! |

Have fun. It's not easy. I tried millions of times before I got approved. Clean up your credit. Pay off any judgements for money and anything sitting at collection agencies. Most banks want u to be at your job for at least 1 year. Sometimes a car dealership might be able to get u approved through one of their lenders. U can watch for ads for people with bad or no credit. |

You CAN get a decent car loan, even with bad credit. I've done it, but you'll have to look around. That's one of the BIG mistakes people make...just taking the first offer that's given to them when they go to the dealer. Be smarter than that.
WARNING: DON'T GO TO BUY A CAR WITHOUT HAVING THE LOAN FIRST. The auto dealers will eat you alive and give you a crappy rate. Shop around with lenders who specialize in bad credit car loans. It's a better option, you don't have to take what they're offering if you don't want it, and it's better than dealing with the car dealer's people.
There are usually some nationally based car loan companies who specialize in bad credit car loans who advertise on the page linked below...
