Depends. Silverware isn't terribly uncommon, even from the 19th century, thus it isn't always worth very much. However, if you research the type you have on the internet and it turns out to be rare and perhaps worth something, an auction is the best bet--those, too, you can research on the internet to find out where local venues are and how to be a part. If they do turn out to be common, a large "commons" type antique shop may be the best bet. Collectors love to browse and you may turn out having something someone has been looking for. And, of course, there's always eBay. |

try taking it to a store that specializes in ebay trade. in ct we have one called i-sold it. www.i-soldit.com they are really good about knowing how to market on ebay and how much things are worth. (we got $80 for a vcr they put on ebay. other vcr's - exact model as ours - went for $30/$40) |

I find that EBay is the best place, since many people who are collectors are very dependent on the site. They charge a nominal fee for posting an auction, but it's well worth it since, more people will see your auction than the number of people you'll get at a flea market. Also you can set your minimum price rather high so you don't get cheated, or set it at a bargin and set a higher reserve price (so that they don't know the reserve price but bid anyways. if the bid fails to meet the reserve price you aren't obligated to sell your item to the highest bidder) |
