Ah yes. My girl friend is in this very situation and I have helped her.
You have to really hit the ground running and explore multiple possibilities.
Pre work:
1) get a copy of your credit score to determine where you stand. this will enable you to see what banks see. Of course, the worse off your score, the slimmer the chances of a loan without credit. REMEMBER, if you work or have a bank account or even a credit card, you do have "credit" its the score that matters.
Options:
If you belong to a certain Religious groups, Ethnic Groups, many have organizations making loans. For example, many Jewish centers offer no interest loans to their disadvantaged members.
You can try Citibank. They offer numerous loan options, but they will likely charge a hefty interest
You can visit a local Credit Union. Credit Union are like banks, but they are more local and progressive. Ask the associate there what they can do for you. Bring some cash and tell them you'll become a member (open an account) if they can loan you the money.
You could also lower the loan amount into pieces from many diff sources:
You could apply for 4 500$ loans from 4 banks, etc. This could allow you to recoup the sum. Just be sure to calc the monthly interest. |
