All the major high street banks will open you a basic bank account that will pay standing orders and direct debits. Some are better than others. Natwest have the Step account which comes with a Solo card so you can buy goods in the shops and get cash back. RBS have the key card, not quite as good but you can use any ATM. Go to www.basicbankaccounts.com. Lloyd's basic bank account lets you use only their ATM. No good if there isn't one for miles.Being unemployed is no bar to these accounts. |

I went to Lloyds TSB, and opened a Basic Bank Account. There is no overdraft facility, but you can still pay all your Direct Debits, Standing Orders. |

Do you need bank account or particularly current account. Anyway employment is not an issue with account opening. Go to any bank with an introducer and with the minimum balance amount. I am just telling the situation in India. |

Abbey electron account is good. I opened mine years ago after bankruptcy. No cheque book or overdrafts but you can use the card in some places such as Tesco. You can also operate the account on the internet if you like. |

You don't need to be employed to open a bank account. |

try the Nationwide Building Society. they offer a very good current account, and I dont think you need to say what your occupation is, as long as money is going into the account on a regular basis. |
