any of the major high street banks are fine and you are guaranteed up to £35,000 of savings even if the bank went bust. its 35k per banking licence so watch it if you have more or several accounts in the same bank. |

If its less than £35K any bank is safe as it is protected by the government. If it is more than £35K spread it around between the banks (but be careful as some of them trade as different names) or Northern Rock as any sum is covered by the government. |

The Coop is the very good bank indeed.
But you can put your money (up to £35000) in any of the UK banks and your cash is government protected. |
