FirstDirect.

Not only are they excellent, have great Customer service, NO Bank charges all the time you don't go more than £500 overdrawn; and good interest rates, they'll give you £100 when you open an account if you were recommended by an existing customer.

Needless to say, if you need a recommendation, I'm happy to help! - not (only) because I'm an all round "good egg"(!), but because I'm happy to recommend a good bank, AND they give me £50 too!!!!

Don't use RBS or Lloyds TSB if you value your sanity. The Halifax is a good and friendly bank I find

I've had a Lloyds TSB account since 1992 and an account with Natwest since 1986. Never had trouble with any of them. Just bank within their guidelines and you'll be fine.

Abbey is so bad. I used to work for them and the rules are so crap. Sure the interest rates are good but the staff are poorly trained (including me- we were an embarassment)!!!
