I don't know where you're from, but I had a checking account with a Visa check card at the age of 16 from BB&T and a savings account with an ATM card from Chevy Chase. Call around and ask the banks that are most convenient for you. Also, a word of advice, be a responsible spender! If you overdraw, you're looking at $30 fees! |

im 16 and i got those priveliges from the bank because my job recommended i opened a checking account.. so just talk to an employee there and they will most likely let you open it.. however on my debit/atm card.. its under my moms and my name since there has to be an adult too. |

You should be old enough to open an account.A debit card is usually if you have a job and you have direct deposit.
What you need is to get a job. Go to a jewerly store pick out something that costs at least $200.00.Tell them you want to establish your credit.Make sure the jewerly store reports every 3months to whatever bank you go to.Of how you are making payments on time.Always pay 4 days early,if they say the payment is due on the 30th ,pay it on the 25th.
Don't pay it off early,a bank will extend you credit beginning usually with $300.00-$500.00.
Showing you are responsible with bills is what banks ,car lots,etc. Want to see! I bought my class ring,to begin mine!

If you have a job and are at least 16 years of age, most banks, and credit unions will allow you to have an atm or debit card. You might have to have parental permission though |

There are none. In the U.S. you can't legally own a debit or atm card being under 18. You CAN however, have parental permission to have one. Your parents need to go with you to open the account and they need to sign on your behalf. It will still be your account, but basically they won't let you have free reign like that unless your supervised. So, all the answers you got telling you these kids got atm cards at 17, is either not true, or they got it with the help and permission of their parents. |
