debit cards are much safer...... they don't reveal your address. And it dosn't leave paper trail. |

both are equally safe with inbuilt safety checks. It all depends on the payee. If his intentions are bad he could misuse both. So assess the creditor and select the suitable mode of payment. even though u disclose all information on the cheque, yet you are protected by law against loss due to forgery. Also for someone to get hold of your cheque book is diffcult. Electronic burglary is much easier as one can do the transaction very fast and leave no trails.
I would prefer cheque. |

Checks have your name and address, your bank's name and address, your checking account number and your bank's routing number on them. Many people even put their drivers license number or even their social security number on them!!! Get hold of one of those and you have everything you need to drain their account, order credit cards in their name, all kinds of good stuff. A debit card, on the other hand, is generally pretty much useless if someone gets hold of it and doesn't know your PIN. Plus, debit cards generally have the same fraud and theft protection as a credit card which limits your liability if it is stolen and used. |

Checks, probably. Many places don't check ID on debit cards and they often don't require a signature, making it easy to use someone else's card. |

I think both are the same. with checks and debit cards you're giving information about yourself and your account |

I would have to say debit cards is a safer payment method, because you are using your pin to pay and you don't have to worry about the check being altered in any way or anthing of that matter. |

I think checks also... Sometimes if you use a check card you can use it but so can others if you lose it. Someone could find your lost check card and run to the pump at the gas station and fill up their tanks..When you write a check its always associated with the fact you have to show a photo ID.... However if you set up automatic payments with a trusted creditor or utility bill company or maybe AOL payments then its better to set up auto pay with your check card.... If you set it up with your routing number and checking acct number then it takes longer to stop it if you decide to.. For example, if AOL won't stop debiting your acccount then you can simply call your bank and have your card deactivated. That way the automatic deductions could not occur anymore...Try not to give out your check card over the phone to buy something because it gives other the opportunity to lift your card number |

Checks. Debit cards are as easy to use as credit cards but take money right out of your account. |

I would not go to a merchant where you have to worry about this question.
Having said that, the debit card will work in other states and overseas, a check will work locally pretty well. I don't think a vendor in Atlanta will want to take a check from a bank in Oregon. |

checks because it is much easier for people to steal the electronic data that your debit card contains then it would be for them to forge a check. |

both are safe----just make sure you know the person your working with when you use the debit card
a debit card is good to have when you think you may want to return something unopened
you may have to wait up to 10 days to get your money back when writing a check |

Debit...definitely....the money comes directly out of your checking account immediately. Checks you have to wait until they're cashed. |
