As long as a bank is FDIC insured, it is safe to put up to $200,000 in any bank (provided it is in a savings or checking account). If you have more than $200,000, I would suggest speaking with a financial specialist about what other options you should consider, or split up your money into $200,000 lots over several banks. Beware, as several other bank services are not insured.

It is a loaded? If any of the big 5 banks ever went under its all over anyways and the only safe place for any of us the mattress but that is very unlikely FDIC is a joke it makes you feel better but that's all

Most should be fine. Just always make sure that it is FDIC insured.

For a normal bank account, any FDIC-insured bank will be adequate. For a saftey deposit box, most banks are going to fine.

Small credit unions are by far the most safe.

Wachovia is very secure bank . . . as is Washington Mutual (WaMu) I've never had or heard of any safety or security problems with those banks . . . Washington Mutual also is very good with working with people and being flexible.

Any FDIC-insured bank in the U.S. is safe up to the $100,000 deposit insurance limit. It is possible to get more than $100,000 in deposit insurance if joint accounts are structured appropriately; however, you should discuss this with employees of the bank. Your mattress is NOT safe - what if the house goes up in flames???
