Which would you prefer? Pay bills online or mail?

For many years now, I have been paying all my monthly bills online, with the only exception being my housing cost because they don't offer online payment. Rather than using the bank's bill payment feature (which often carries a monthly fee), I pay each account directly through their web site at no charge.

Thus far I have had zero problems using the online method. On the other hand, I have encountered numerous problems with the "mail method" such as lost/misdirected payments and account statements, and credit card convenience checks stolen from the mail and used fraudulently.

So long as the company with which you are doing business is one that you know well and offers payment via a site that uses SSL (secure socket layer) encryption, I would not hesitate to pay online. One other thing to consider, ...a check payment stolen from the mail provides the thief with your full name, address, bank name, bank account number, bank routing number, AND your signature.

I prefer to pay mine through the mail and continue to do so.

I do both. Some I can pay online and some I need to write a check for.

Online.

Saves time, stampsmoney, and you have records
of the transaction to prove payment.

Online all the way. No paperwork, I just choose a company and go.

Online... once I switched to online, I never looked back. Some people are concerned about security issues, but not me.

Easy....everything Online. You're far more accessible to ID theft by paying bills by mail.

I maximize my return by paying all bills I can online (saves postage) on my Discover card. I get 1% cash back on that. I then pay that bill on the day it's due with a check!

online all the way!! I had some issues with it at 1st...but it is far more convenient since I am glued to the chair anyway!
besides...no stamps!

I've recently started paying some of my bills through on-line banking. I like it.
I've used a couple of banks and there can be a slight downside. The banks seem to take the money from your account immediately on the schedule date even if the transfer is not going directly into a payee account. In other words, if they actually have to mail a check, they take the money on on the day it is mailed not the day the check clears the payee's bank. That results in a slight loss of interest, but I think the cost of a stamp would be a bigger loss for me. Like I said, it is a slight downside.

Online is probably preferable to sending the check by mail, since mail does get lost in transit. Online paying has its problems though, such as the possibility of identity theft. It's all a matter of personal preference, and the risks you are willing to take.
