I'm from Europe and about 95% of the time one fulltime job over here is more than enough to pay the bills and save some extra cash.

If you work in the minimum wage fields of work, which accounts for a staggering amount of people in America, then most often the job is part-time. the federal minimum wage is $5.85 for non-tipped employees. In my state, the minimum wage is higher than the federal minimum at $7.00 for non-tipped employees and $3.50 for tipped employees. (If your tips so not meet minimum wage though, the employer must pay you at least that much.) With that said, even if an employer hires you full time, there is barely enough money there to rent out a small apartment, drive a car (which is oftentimes required regardless of our public transportations systems), and eat. That is why many people find it necessary to find a second job. |

Have you even been inside an American house? We live very differently then Europeans.
Americans tend to be very very greedy and want to own many many things. We have lots of cars (3-5 per family), big houses, tons of clothing, etc.
This would be OK if you have the money to pay for it. However, many people do NOT have the money to buy what they want so they buy it on credit cards. The credit card bills are the ones that create the problems.
Then of course you have heard of the housing problem, where thousands of people bought homes they had no pay to pay for and are now in trouble.
Trying to sum it up simply, Americans feel entitled to a high end life style, even if they decided not to obtain the education or job to support that life style. |

America is geared towards the big business corporations who have the power to do almost anything to make money. Rules are made to take your money. If everyone has their hands in your paycheck then you have to have more paychecks to take care of yourself. |

Most Americans do only work one job according to the IRS. Others with a second job it is usually something they like to do. America's average family income is greater than most of Europe.
