I think men are more sensitive to the keeping up with the Joneses thing, especially when it comes to electronics, cars and gadgets ... all very expensive items. Also, I think men have much more fragile egos than women and this is one way they can pump themselves up.
BTW, I totally agree with your findings. All of my girlfriends have troubles with free-spending husbands while they shop sales and pinch pennies to buy things for themselves and their kids. |

think of it this way:::::: A good looking girl has a pretty good chance of just walking up and picking up any guy she wants. A guy good looking or not has to go through all the motions to "get the girl" which usually involves spending ALOT of #$# money!@!!!!!! |

I think there are two factors: men generally make more money and men spend money on women. I think men tend to make bigger purchases, whereas women tend to spend less each time, but make purchases more often. Did your experiment control for differences in income, age, marital/family status, etc? If not you can not be sure your differences are related to gender. |

Men make more money and do spend alot but we do not spend it on junk like most women. we dont but hundreds of pares of shoes we but one untill we need new ones we dont need new shoes every time we have to go some where. but when we do spend money we spend a lot in one specific area. we might do research for a while and buy the best of that prouct, which preventaly cost more money we spend more money to get the best out of a product. |

Because, in spite of the fact women actually make almost as much as men do, they expect men to spend their money on them, and they are more interested in men who are willing and able to do this.
So guys spend a lot of money to impress women, in order to GET them, or to KEEP them after they get them.
A lot of women spend less of their OWN money, because they're spending more of a MANs money.
It's common for a woman to view the mans money as "bill money" and her own as "fun money".
Sorry ladies, but you know it's true.

Why ask here if you already have your data? Did you include questions with regard to the type of purchases, frequency, etc.?
Your data could be skewed unless you polled every demographic. Provide more information with regard to your experiment for a somewhat educated answer. |

I think its because women tend to look into the future more.
Guys are kind of spur of the moment, and when we get something we like it to be fancy.
Especially with gizmo's we might not even use. |

We men, since we are just dumb smelly animals, tend to spend money on women so they will tolerate us...therefore. the women tend to put their money into tax free accounts.

Who knows, if your experiment is valid? How do you know that there was not other factors in your sample which was the cost of bias?
Where the sample representative of the two populations?
Where the samples large enough?
Was the results statisticaly significant?
Was there another source of bias? income, age,
Did you look at there total purchses (cars, houses, etc) or just how much they purchase at a particular store or location? |

Because us men enjoy expensive toys like boats, fast cars, big tv's, and computers. Women enjoy dreaming about what they should do next in their lives and see no need for a boat or a big tv. More men work too. |

when men buy things they go all out. like girls will buy lots of cute shirts for (lets say) $15 and that looks like a lot. but when guys buy one thing it may be like rims for a car and that ends up being the equivalent to what a women has spent in a week or more. so just cause it visually seems like we spend a lot..guys spend the same amount in just one item.
so were are equal in a way...us girls just have more crap |

maybe because men are the providers. (in the old times) women sat at home and took care of the kids and did housework. Men went to work and handled the finances. Men provide for the whole family where as women only shop for themselves. Just a theory... |

men have more expensive toys ....women tend to pamper themselves on getting nails, hair, tanning.etc...and matching purses etc...jewels...so on...so they are always perceived as always shopping in the malls...when in reality...when men buy...it's cars.stereo equipment...etc...and don't be like;y to shop for bargains and will buy 1st thing rather than shop around for clothes etc...and still have the old school where men make more money on the job than a woman and therefore can spend more...... |

Maybe because men buy more expensive things. Like a man might buy one big thing that cost loads of money. But woman might buy smaller things that adds up to a lot of money, but not as much at men. |

cool. I did that experiement too and it showed the same thing. I gave my people 100bucks and men spent faster and more of it. I think the reason why is because women think more along the lines of tomarrow and are frugle and men think are more along the lines of now and they try to impress women bc it proves that they are a provider and women like that not all women but some. I read that in a article on webmd about a month ago I hope that helps you. |
