Ignore DrRoboto. That guy has been on here for days, changing his ID, to promote his marketing scam. |

Unfortunately there is a lot of demand out there. The number of things to buy never ends. The commercials convince us to get more and more. People spend and spend until they live paycheck to paycheck without ever thinking that some savings is a good thing.
No, I can't write a check for $1000. BUT, at the age of 51 I have retirement savings over 100K. (I still can't touch the money AND it's not enough to retire) |

Because their income isn't enough. 5.15 for the min wage is terrible esp with the price of gas.. |

More than likely, they never had anyone to teach them growing up. My Dad always taught me and my sister and it's been such a help. |

There is incessant social pressure to spend spend spend so you can look like your favorite American Idol or "live large" like your favorite actor or rock star or just have the same things - or better things, actually - than your neighbors. Simple willpower doesn't do the trick in a country where the mean income for a family of four is in the low 30 thousands. |

well if there were better paying jobs then we all wouldn't be going pay check to pay check. I wish i could save my money but it all goes to living expenses. |

People think they will never be in a situation where they will need it. |

Live for the moment, buy the latest "toys", spend it as soon as you got it, run up your credit cards, need I go on? Having an emergency fund means planning ahead for things that may or may not ever happen - kind of like having financial insurance. It is not something most people think about. |

maybe because not everyone was born with a silver spoon in their mouth. The cost of living is growing faster than before, and the minimum wage is still $5.15/hr. Insurances are going up, while benifits stay in place. And for those with families it's nearly impossible for one parent to stay home, but it's too expensive for day care and the day's you have to miss to stay with a sick child its almost worthless. And if you further your education, while working your grades may not be as good if you didn't work. And the LOANS!!! by the time you get out your in debt to your eye balls. not everyone has the support finicial to start out. As for gas prices, I'm not about to get on that soap box. A lot of people of other responsibilities including financial burdens of others. So why don't more people have an emergency fund! maybe because when it rains it pours! Now I've struggled for 7 years to obtain 2 degrees, but I've earned it and only now (after 2 years) I'm seeing the light at the end of the tunnel. I know people who are way worse off then I am so I know the struggles. I'm sorry, but just some people don't have the luxury of a fat bank account. Some people need to take a look around, even those who look rich are struggling and are up to their ears in debt. Why do people not have an emergenct fund? Because they have to live with what they call life. |

I guess a lot of people prefer to live in the moment, and spend their cash on what they want now, rather than save for that rainy day... I'm actually surprised it's not more than that. |

Some people have limeted education and live from day to day even with 2 incomes these people are not able to save , this does not make them bad people |

There could be several reasons. One, people can't afford to because they are living pay check to pay check, they use credit cards, aren't sure what the best options are or aren't disciplined enough to actually do it.
I think it really depends on the person. |
