why'd u put this in personal finance? Do u think teenagers are the money makers for the catholic church or something? Teens turn away from church, wheather catholic or otherwise. The churches preach way more than a teen can commit to. Plus, it's their age to rebel, and one way to do so is not coming to church, and turning away from God for a while. They do come back, and hopfully stay. |

The whole purpose of life is to be fully human. In order for us to be human in its fullness is to know God and build a relationship with him as his child. Because only in God we are truly alive.
The Catholic Church is the place where we come to know this God. She is also a teacher of faith. In her we are nourish with all the intended goodness.
However, there are also other churches that preaches God but in a different flavour, different setting, different emphasis.
Just as how different each individual are, so are their attraction factor.
Just as what Pope John Paul II once said "It does not matter how you pray as long as you do pray".
I trust that God has his ways and the Spirit will move the hearts of these young teenagers to be more open and sensitive to the goodness that God has to offer through the Catholic Church.
As for those who belongs to the Church, we should focus on our conducts and strengthen our own faith. We should clear the logs in our own eyes first before we start pointing out the twig in other people's eyes. Only through the way we live our lives with God can others be attracted to our Lord. In our quest to imitate Jesus, his life, his passion and his Love, I trust we shall bring many with us to heaven.

Wow, in personal finance we find religion. Cool, ok. So here's my answer. The Catholic Church has a wonderful purpose however the message can often be pretty difficult to absorb when it's delivered in a less than helpful or loving manner.
There are a lot of ways to get your message across and I think that teenagers are sensitive to being told what to do vs. making a choice. The Christian Church (for example Non Denominational) may be a good alternative. The bottom line is living your life according to God's will for us however you can sing it..or you can scream about it. How you get the message across is often more important.

I teach CCD at my local parish and I’d say the main reason is a horrible education in the Faith. Parents are not doing their job and properly teaching their children the faith. My first class was a week ago and I gave them a 5 page test to see what they knew. It was pitiful. These are ninth graders who’ve spent probably every year of their life in catechism and they know nothing. What are the parents doing? What were the teachers doing?
This is why they leave the Church because anyone else can come along and confuse them so easily. The first guy that seems to make any sense is who they follow, and that person usually isn’t Catholic. Sad, sad. |
