email is taking over for snail mail
bills can even be paid online - do you realize how much that has reduced the every day mail...
I forgot to put a new 39 cent stamp on a time-sensitive resume - it took the Post Office 12 days to return it to me for the 2 cents!! 12 days!! I took it down to my local post office and VERY POLITELY asked them to get it to it's destination quickly after paying the 2 cents. Guess what arrived in my mail box the next day? YEP - my own resume! I was so p*ssed I faxed my resume! |

Here's a related question: Despite the rate hikes, why isn't postal service getting much better? I still receive packages that look as if a dog ate them, have to stand in endless lines at the post office because they won't hire enough postal clerks, and frequently experience slow delivery. If they raise the price of postage again, I doubt anything's going to really change much. |

i believe since postage stamps are representing gas prices maybe less taxes has been going in for a while. |

I guess their costs keep increasing plus they are competing with email, Fedex, UPS, etc.
Also, I'm sure the price of ammunition has gone up so the price of "going postal" is probably higher too-lol. |

United Postal service needs more money due to online bill pay and the fact that so much is done online. although they probably make a lot more money on shipping online merchandise. Could be gas prices or could just be that its the government and they can do it. think about it. do you know a way to send mail a different way with USPS stamps. I don't unless you pull the use the return address as the actual address and "forget a stamp" |

Your post office has to pay for electric, water, gasoline, and other necessaries, same as you do. Have you noticed that the price of these items has gone up? |

Because the postal service is becoming more and more passe.. with internet use on the rise.. the postal service is feeling the pinch. |

The price rises b/c less real mail is being sent due to e-mail. So the post office has to keep revenue up somehow. |

One reason is email...so many people can now communicate without the postal service...it has put a bit of a hurt on them. |
