More to the point, why don't they issue £5 notes as a matter of course .... not everyone wants £20 notes in their hand ... and a £5 note, while nowadays of relatively low value, is so much handier in shops etc. A machine that issues coins would be more akin to an amusement arcade, methinks ... |

It's cheaper to produce a machine that deals with paper money only. It's also easier to manage - ie coins take up much more room when they are stacked up. Imagine a machine that keeps 25,000 pounds in notes and 10,000 in one pound coins - it wouldn't be just a hole in the wall - it would be the whole wall !! |

There isn't enough room in machines to dispense coins also, plus it would take far too long, if even possible to fill a cash machine with coins. |

You can't even get £5 notes anymore so why would they give out coins? It would be a nightmare to fill them up and then balance them at tha bank (which usually has to be done every week), can you imagine counting all the change? |

The average atm holds over £100 000 but is not always filled to capasity even still needs to be topped up up to 3 times per week imagine how many coins you would need to hold even just £5000 the same reason they do not hold £5 notes any more, space! |
