Where does that come from?! There are plenty of people working in England in the weekend - who's running the buses, trains, serving in shops, restaurants.

People termed office workers tend to be the main non weekend workers but even some of them still work on Saturdays occasionally. Schools are rarely open at weekends so the perception is that "the English don't work at weekends" but it's an understandable myth.
