I have six children, and I don't feel very selfish. I was not careless either, each one was planned and wanted. 4 of them are young adults now, in college, one married, each making their way in life. We have helped them all we can with tution and expenses, but they take great pride in what they can accomplish - and earn - for themselves. In fact, even if we could afford to buy them each a house so they didn't have to pay off a 30 year mortgage, they would never appreciate the home as much as if they had worked and sacrificed to build something of their own and feel the pride that comes from being successful.
I have never heard that parents were responsible for housing their adult children. As long as you can take care of their needs while they are young, and send them on their way when they are old enough.
Have you seen the wreck celebrities children often make of themselves? Without the need or desire to work to make their lives better, people can become pretty wretched. |

every living thing's purpose in life is to procreate, full stop, survival of a species - it is not to get a mortgage, fill our lives with rubbishy material objects, eat macdonalds, go out clubbing every weekend etc. Once you have been born it is YOUR choice whether you get a job, mortgage etc - if you don't like it do something different - go travelling, be a bum, help someone more in need than yourself - there are many options in life, if you don't like what you're doing now then change it - decide on what will fulfill you and make it your life's goal to achieve that |

Everyone has to work to survive, its part of nature's cycle. People should not have children to look after them when they are old. They should have children because they want to love & nurture something and they should do their very best to ensure the child gets the best in life. This does not have to be money, love and affection do an awful lot for a person.
I agree that some people selfishly have children. We know people that spend all day and night in the pub, the kids are an inconvenience, why on earth did they have them. They don't have much money but that doesnt matter they could take them to parks, play with them, read books to them, why have kids if you don't want to do anything with them. |

Why presume reasons people might have children?
You don't have to get a mortgage at any time during your life. you have life choices, it is not compulsory to have mortgages children motorbikes cars or holidays.

Well, I think that people who have to work for a good life are much better off. People who are handed things on a silver platter are not always the best contributors in society. Its usually the ones that had a hard life or had to work for every thing they had who tend to be the good eggs. Of course there are always exceptions to the rule. I had a hard life and have had to work for everything I have, mortgage included. I am proud of the fact that I am who I am because of the life I had growing up. Parents, rich or poor, should provide their children with opportunities to learn to be self sufficient and successful in life. Good question to get people to think!! Thanks ( : |

Christ! Are you the same person that was going on about 'will life be hell if your parents don't buy you a flat' and that mortgages are a waste of money? Because I answered that question earlier and you sound like the same person under a different profile!
I haven't really got a clue what your problem is!
You do not need to be able to buy your child a flat in the future to have a child.
The child should buy his/her own flat when he/she is an adult! That's what most people have to do!
And as I said in my other answer, getting a mortgage for 25 years (NOT 30+ - mortgages are TWENTY FIVE YEARS) is a wiser option than renting.
You are on some kind of rampage and I really don't think you understand the topic that you are talking about.
And if you are basically complaining because your parents won't buy you a flat, you need a reality check! |

When the child is old enough to take care of themselves, they are on their own. Your parents are not going to pay your way through life nor should they. It's a tough world but you need to give yourself a good life now - your parent's job is done and now it's up to you. In other words, buy your own flat. Your parents are not selfish. |
