Drives me nuts too...I understand it since some folks find it more difficult to keep track or at least that's there excuse...heck if you are using a check book registrar you can whip it out every-time you use a debt card the same as you use a check.
But folks refuse to change, we were suppose to be a near paperless society by now, hell the penny takes 2 cents to make but folks refuse to give it up.
So in the mean time I just write notes to stores that have so call express lanes that check writers should be banned from them since they aren't express people! |

Many people use checks because they make it easier to keep track of finances. When you whip out your debit card and use it everywhere, unless you carry a little notebook with you and write in it (which takes as long as filling out the stub of a check) or save every single receipt and record it at the end of the day, you really don't have a good idea of the money you are spending. When you write checks, you have an account of where your money goes because there is a written record. And many people appreciate that aspect. Makes them feel like they are in control of their finances.
Me? Well. I'm a fan of the debit card. But, I have to say I do get in trouble sometimes because I overspend...whoops.... |

Our checks have Tom N Jerry on them. We don't use checks at the grocery store, but I digress.

Some places only accept checks or cash. My doctor's office is like this. I asked him why and he said Visa/Master Card charge a small fee for each credit transaction like .5% each tim. It does add up over time. |

One day when the electronic banking system goes down some of us will still be able to pay while all the debit card users are standing there scratching their heads!
We will just pull out the checkbook, or even stranger still a wad of cash, pay and be on our way! :-)
Most every business that accepts MC/Visa debit/credit cards loses 2-5% on every sale they make to someone who uses a card. |

Personal preference. Checks are a legitimate, time-honored form of payment. There is nothing wrong with them. While I use my debit card for everything, I see lots of people still using checks. I've never noticed any problem with it. |

Get real. Not everyone has a computer and not everyone uses a Debit card. Just becuase you have to have the Latest and Greatest of eveyr technology, doens't mean others must also.
Not all banks offer debit cards either. |

Checks or cheques have several advantages.
They are simple to implement. Write one out and mail it. There are also fairly quick.
The fees are low, compared with say credit cards.
They are secure, because they can only go into the account you specify (the author of Spiderman insisted his name was The Amazing Spiderman until he tried to cash the cheque at his bank).
I haven't personally paid by cheque in years, but in business we usually send cheques. In many countries people are still using cash.
Basically it is because it is just as easy as any other way of paying. |

I agree with having a record of what you wrote. I get a little crazy using my debit card. I actually went to a small little cafe that only accepted cash or checks (from any state), so you pull out your checkbook you never use and write them a check! |

I happen to be one of those backwards people you talk about. Why don't I have a debit card? 'Cause I live in a little stinkhole of a town and my bank doesn't offer one. The other two banks offer one, but charge a service charge to have your money in their bank. My checks aren't antique either. Just got 'em a month ago. So there! And not everyone can get a debit card, even if they live in a big stinkhole of a city. If you've got rotten credit, you're fortunate you can even spend cash. So, if you're one of the "fortunate" few that owns a debit card, then stand in the line that uses them. Wally World has such a line, where only cards are used, with no cashier to slow you folks down. Nor do you have to put up with us "old fashioned people". We sure don't wanna slow you down as you blow your paycheck. <*)))>< |

Who are you calling backwards! When I run out of cash at the end of the month I use checks for a couple of days because I know they won't clear my account for 4 working days and by that time my salary is in.
And for your information not everbody can get a Debit card! So stop getting stressed in the grocery store and get a life. |

Why do people think checks are secure? Once your checkbook is stolen, your bank account information and your home address are immediately available to the thief. Since when does a debit card tell people where you live?
With all of the websites that allow you to use your bank information to pay for things, how is a check safer than a debit card? Your bank account can be drained just as easily. |
