Having signed on the British dole in the past and am now gainfully employed in a homeless shelter as a project worker in charge of finding jobs for the young and homeless, it makes me sick to the core every time I hear a whining excuse from someone who says that they can't get a job for this or that reason. It all boils down to a financial tie to benefits. It is an easy life, signing on once a fortnight and getting money for nothing. You also will be entitled to housing benefits and free council tax. If you are overweight they give you DVLA which is set at a higher rate to pay for transport which I can see daily being spent on more food, likewise alcoholics get more money which is also spent on more alcohol. You don't even have to sign on when in receipt of Disability Living Allowance. Please can someone tell me what office or till work someone in a wheelchair or with a broken leg, sprained wrist etc, cannot do? I'm currently at work with two broken ribs and function perfectly well. Why should the unemployed masses get off their lazy arses when the British government practically wipes their fat behinds for them, instead? Cut Job seekers Allowance, Income based allowance and the DVLA and you'll see far more of the social parasites looking for work when they can no longer afford satellite TV and the latest trainers. Not only does the person asking this question barely make more than those on benefits, but the insult comes when you take into account that the benefit claimers money comes in part from the taxes that she and her husband have to pay. |

im in a wheelchair, (and have been for 25yrs) i get well looked after by the state, and im grateful we live in a socialist country... but then again i paid my taxes from day one... i didnt ask to be crippled by some drunk in a car...
oh, and i didnt get any compo.... be grateful for what you have, others would like to have the opportunity... believe me. |

I receive 100% disability from the Veterans Administration. The total amount is more than minimum wage. Before you get jealous or evious, read what I went through. I served two tours of combat in Vietnam. I was shot and blown up more than once. 35 years later, I still don't sleep well and have almost no contact with anyone, I live like a hermit. I was exposed to the herbicide known as Agent Orange and have liver, kidney, and spleen dysfunctions. My face is all scarred up. I deal with rage that you cannot imagine. I was in denial for over 20 years before I went to a VA Hospital in 1992. So, although some people may have lied or cheated in some way to get benefits, I can assure you that it is not so easy to get anything out of the Veteran's system even when you deserve it. BE GLAD TO WORK AND BE GLAD YOU HAVE SOMEONE TO LOVE! |

benefits aren't all their cracked up to be. My husband had a bike accident in April, he was put in a coma had multi-organ failure and lost his leg. I put in a claim at the time to make sure we had money coming in. I'm still waiting for this to be paid to us.
You have to give ALL information about you and your house and your lifestyle people come round to 'asses' its very intrusive and not that good at all. Most people on benefits don't want to be on them but HAVE to be. Just a shame they have people who scam it and let them slip through the net. |

Yeah Tina, that really sucks. I can't imagine how infuriating it must be to see a sizable portion of your husband's hard earned wages going to support those leeches (I mean income tax). On the other hand I'm sure that none of us would want to deny those such as the victim of a drunk driver or Vietnam vet their benefit. The problem in this country is that vast population of council estate inhabitants who claim benefits generation upon generation... |

Sometimes I wonder what would happen if they decided to scrap the whole entire Benefits System altogether. Alot of people would have no choice but to take any job offered to them out there disabled or not |

Depends. If the benefit claimer actually did hard work before becoming disabled, and made a higher salary, then it shouldn't be held against them that they cannot physically work anymore.
However, if it's just people who sit on their tails and have never worked a day, because they don't want to (or spit out 10 kids just to make sure they keep the benefits coming), then no, that makes no sense at all. |

No, however certain people have no other way of working.or earning a living.
what about night school so he can get qualifications that will lead to better pay., if you don't try and change you will be in the same place in 10 years.
Most people on benefits don't have this choice. |

i am sick and tired of benefit scroungers, my partner works up to 60 hours a week, and i had our baby so im a stay at home mum i worked up till the day i had my baby but all we are entitled to is £20.30 a week which is not alot when you have to buy nappies and milk which all seems to get more and more expensive, what fustrates me the most is my partners family are mainly on benefits one of the members of family are on just under £2000 a month and a 3 bed house payed for water payed for and they get an up to date car and have to pay extras for all the mod cons which they have payed, the tax service mot is all payed for any damages to the car they get payed for all for free and it soooooo fustrating and they moan the have no money but there always getting new designer things, now i cant be annoyed at them when the govement let them get away with it, so the goverment need to sort the system out because they are always saying we are in debt but the let people get away with all this fraud and lies about there situation. |
