I withdrew some cach at a busy ATM when someone tapped me on the shoulder and pointed to a piece of paper on the floor and told me it had fallen out of my pocket. By the time I had explained that it was not mine, my debit card had been pick pocketed and within minutes £700 had been withdrawn from my account - so they must have seen me input my PIN. |

That sucks. They should have it on camera if you were at an atm, and they should have the other person on camera too, you need for them to investigate this, they should replace it, but all banks aren't the same. |

Some banks here in the U.S. have a policy of refunding all or part of any money that was withdrawn from your account fraudulently if you report it to them in a timely manner. You will probably need to send supporting documentation, e.g., a police report of the incident. If I were you I would do so immediately. I'm not familiar with law and policies in the U.K., but they are similar, I hope, for your sake. Good luck. |

Yes, they will refund your money. They will maybe put a hold on your card and possibly you may have to open another account with them which is easy. But, they'll refund it and investigate it. It could take a couple of months for them to close the deal but you'll get your money right away. Of course, if they find no evidence of someone stealing from your account, then they'll reverse the process and you'll owe them back. But just about every ATM has a camera (every bank has a camera) and they'll trace it to that. I had my backpack stolen at a water park in (the day before Mother's Day) and it included my car and house keys, debit card, license, my cell phone and $60 cash. Of course I lost the cash and had to have someone drive to me 115 miles to deliver my car key. But they also broke into my car with my key fob and stole my checkbook. The person that stole it wiped out $1200 in my account within an hour. That was one helluva day. It completely ruined it and of course, couldn't bring my mother out to eat for Mother's Day. But, the bank closed down my account (mostly due to the checkbook) and I had to go to the banking center to prove who I was. Of course, they stole my license as well so I had to go through that ordeal as well and borrow money from a bunch of people so I can get through that difficult time. But finally, last week, my bank sent me a letter saying that the credit was permanent (I got the credit the Monday right after the Saturday it was stolen) so the investigation is over. So, don't listen to others about that you lost it forever. More than likely, you'll be able to recover it. Just call your bank RIGHT AWAY though and explain it. You'll be jumping a lot of hurdles, yes but it's still your money. |

Call your bank, they will have specialists who deal with this stuff! its very common so don't blame yourself!
The bank will either deal with it direct or ask you to call your loacl police station to report it as a crime!
Dont let these people get away with it! Call your bank sooner rather than later!

i lost almost £200 but i contacted barclays and explained to them the situation who kindly sent me a new card and refunded my full amount
but for these cases they require police help because it is very common for people to claim their card was robbed and got they account wiped. you should have taken note of the time and identified the crook in the cctv room your self and possibly your chances for a refund would be sky rocketing |

I am not sure how it works in the UK, but in the US PIN transaction disputes are usually more difficult to dispute. However, you have a legitimate explanation for how they could have seen your pin. I would definitely put in the claim and see what they say. It may take a bit longer, but hopefully if the machine where you withdrew your cash had a camera, they will be able to at minimum see something that corroborate your story. Even if they don’t actually catch them. Have you contacted your bank? The sooner the better and have you card canceled and reissued. (Not just reissued, you want a new card number). Good luck. |

I'm afraid that's not your bank's responsibility - it's up to you to safeguard your card and PIN. You need to report it to the police, many ATMs have built-in security cameras so it may be possible to identify the offender. |

The bank will know that the transactions will have taken place with a pin.They even know how many pin attempts were made so I'm sorry but it will take some proving. Did they spend £700 on goods or withdraw £700, as most debit cards do not have a £700 limit. You can try your bank but to be honest I work in one and I would find this hard to believe even if it were true, Lets face it we could all try this one. |

no unfortunately they wont, my partner did that to me when i was in hospital before he broke up with me and the only thing i could do was take him to court but i didnt have the heart to so i let it go, it was almost $1000 in cash. |
