I was pressured into playing wow, so I took my moms credit card out of her purse and bought both the games for 50 bucks total. I feel bad cause I don't even like the game much. I bought the online versions, so I never actually got a box or disks. If she calls up her credit company and cancels the payment, will she get her money back? I dont know what to do

ha what are you all talking about illegal stuff for... my mom isnt going to have me thrown in jail. she will just make me pay her back which im fine doing when i get money i just dont have any right now so i felt bad. |

If she tells the truth, the credit card company will not credit her account, she will have to pay OR file charges against you.
So, if she lies, then yes, they will probably reverse the charges. but, they may not and the card holder (your mom) can be held responsible for the first $50 in fraudulent charges anyway.
Remember how bad you feel now and then remember it before you do something so stupid again.

If she denies the charges, they'll investigate for fraud. This could have repercussions for you, since that would be declaring that, basically, you stole her card. And yes, this could lead to her credit card prosecuting you for theft.
If she tried to stop payment without declaring fraud, they would investigate, and find that it was a legitimate transaction (services rendered for payment as agreed) and reinstate the charge.
She could call up Blizzard and explain the circumstances and hope they feel generous enough to reverse the charge....
.... or you could cancel the WoW account so there would be no further charges, and earn enough money to pay back what you stole. I worry about you, that you feel guilty about stealing her card mostly because you didn't feel you got good value in the deal.
<edit> We're talking about "illegal stuff" since that is what the credit card company will treat it as, if she reports it as an unauthorized charge. Using someone else's credit card is theft, no matter what relation you may be to the cardholder. Given the small amount, it is unlikely that you'd go to jail, I suspect, but you would likely have at least one nice pleasant conversation with a police officer and possibly a judge. Once she reports it as fraud, the issuing bank can and usually will prosecute; it doesn't matter if she doesn't want to involve you or not. |

No she wont get her money back, the only way she could would be to say you comitted interstate fraud and put a mark on your record till you are 18...
If she gets her money back I hope she spends it on a belt, to spank you... you obviously didn't get enough of that. |

People were talking about the illegal stuff because it is what it is.
Basically you mother has zero recourse. The only way for her to deny the charges is to say that you were not allowed to use the card and produce a police report. Even then she will have to pay.
$50? Time to man up and just take responsibity as that would go far. Have her just find out later and your are screwed for years. You feel bad..... fess up. |

This problem happend to me. The thing i did was i called the bank and told them to cancel the transaction, but the problem is they will ask you for the card numbers, social security number |

I think the question here is when you are going to tell your mom about it... whether or not your mom decides to "cancel" the purchase is something only your mom can decide.
What you did could have some serious legal and criminal consequences, I hope you are aware of that?
If you use somebody elses credit card and make fraudulent charges you can be charged with a crime and you can end up in jail.
I hope you understand that? While I don't think that Mom is going to press charges against you... I would be seriously upset about what you did if you were my child. Not so much about the money but the fact that you "stole" a credit card and committed identity theft, defrauded a merchant and well there is the "Merchandise" that you now stole....and of course the fact that other people end up in front of a judge and go to jail for doing such a thing....

i hope by now you realise that this can be classed as stealing or fraudulent use etc.
best thing is tell your mom, apologise and offer to pay her the money back and do this quick, the longer you delay the worse it will be.
sadly your mom will be very disappointed with you and it may take a while for her to trust you again. she could also do a bit of yelling - i would but that could be her way of expressing her feelings.
make a vow never to do this again. |
