Technically it is illegal to open letters not addressed to you unless you can prove you were appointed his agents. If you had sent the letters back "gone away" then this might have stopped the problem.
Try speaking to your local CAB or to Consumer Direct (www.consumerdirect.gov.uk) for advice
Do not let the bailiffs into your house unless they have a warrant and have the Police there. |

Refrain from opening any further mail.
Simply write on the back of the envelope Return to Sender, Not at this address.
The debt collectors will do nothing, it isn't your problem! |

Why would you open his mail? Is that your business?
Just mark the envelopes "Return to Sender" and give them to the post office. |

As long as you can prove you are not this person they can't do anything. Debt collectors will always use the last address they have on record regardless whether the person still lives there. Don't worry about it .You are not responsible for your friends debts. |

legally debt collectors will find the guarantors of the debtor in case the debtor cant be foumd.. u dont have 2 worry if u r not his/her guarantor.. but u can start panic now if u r the guarantor.. :-) |

as long as there is no guarantor for the debts/loans then the debts are 100%his.
you need to write a letter to all the debtors explaining that he no longer lives at your address and as he is 'touring' around you have no forwarding address.
also make it clear (very) that no personal posesions belonging to him are at your house.
they can send bailiffs to you if they believe you have some of his property.
once explained in the letter ask them to no longer contact you about the mater as it has nothing to do with you and you are not aware of any more details.
could even say you will keep their details so if he does get in touch you will contact them with any further information (you dont tell them anything but it apears to them you are cooporating in every way you can)
they have no legal right what so ever to 'hastle' you over this debt. if they do then go to citizens advice about it.
keep ALL corispondence with then as well.
hope this helps
good luck. |

you dont have to worry as debt is linked to the individual and not an address so they cannot take anything from you or anyone else for that matter at the addresss. its best to return any mail with the words "not known at this address, return to sender"
if you get a knock at the door explain that the person must have been a previous tennant and that you have no contact details and if they are the pushy type dont be alarmed they cannot take anything. simply ask them to wait while you call the police.
if the person they want isnt in the property and they persist you have grounds for harrasement but this is very rare that it happens
you dont owe the debt it is not your responsibility and no one has the right to take anything that isnt the sole property of the person in debt.
if you get a knock at the door dont ever let anyone in and if they persist get company details and call the police |

They can't do anything to you. It's not your debt unless of course you are the guarantor. Phone the debt company and tell them the guy doesn't live here anymore and you have no forwarding address. |

Debt Collectors cannot take your stuff, only Court County Bailiffs can do that.
County Court Bailiffs can only take stuff if you have defaulted on a CCJ.
And they cannot take stuff from anyone else only the debtor.
So relax! |

MR Hole,

if its not your debt. then you have nothing to worry about |

UK advice only. Let them try, if they do calmly dial the local police in front of them, and say someone is treatening to take goods without valid reason. These people may be trouble for your mate if he has any assets but not for you. |

You probally will more than likely get them knocking your door,
As long as you can prove who is on the rent book and its not your friends name they would usually write it off,
Or you can phone the compony who is in charge of this Debt they will usually take it off the system once they know that person is no longer living at that address..

hi, just send the letters back to the sender, saying no longer at this address, if by chance the debt collectors call, all you have to do is show them your ID and they should not take anything, if the debt is not yours then its not your problem, they will find a way of catching up with your mate,,,,,good luck to you.. |
