Would you relocate if you knew you could make more money?

Yes, totally. Go where the money is.

For a lot of people, it depends on a lot of factors, i.e. would it be a great job? How far away would one have to relocate? Family? Friendships? How much more money are we talking about?

Actually, I relocated overseas a few times. It was well worth the experience, as well as the funds.

If it was a significant amount, absolutely. I've been wanting to relocate anyway.

Shamrocks
I'm divorced, w/ children, so I would relocate only if it kept me close to my kids. When I was single and living in Connecticut, I applied to jobs in LA.

well, i did about 2 years ago, it has not turned out well. besides having to find all new friends, and having to cover the expense of moving. I quit the job after a year, because they were not holding up their end of the bargain. Things i had been promised were being denied. I would say don't do it unless it is ALL spelled out in black and white. They totally changed once i took the job and moved.

cutiepie
Yes, if I knew there was more money involved and the job was secure and the area of which you would have to move too.

moby

No - I now live down south; I used to live in 2 state in the Midwest (MN and IL), and will NEVER live where there is snow. I don't give a crap how much the salary is!

I would rather live in poverty and live in a nice climate than be rich and miserable!!!!

It depends where I would have to relocate to. My family (parents, siblings, grandparents) are really important to me so there are some places that I would not move to. My family is in NC and I live in MI and this distance is really hard so I know that I would not move to California or any of the western states. The only time I would agree to relocate were if I were moving closer to home.

Madd Scientist
Absolutely...but as long as the list of pro's were much longer than my list of cons (for moving vs. not moving). I would sit and consider family, friends, cost of living, type of company, other opportunities in the city (incase this company doesn't work out), lifestyle in the new city/town..etc..

Money is a good reason to switch jobs but if and only if its truly worth it!
