I understand your feeling about charging smaller items on a credit card, and I do agree that credit cards are a debt trap for many people. However, here's another side of the story... I have a credit card with which I earn airline credits (I live in the US, I'm not sure if this applies to the UK) when I use it. So I often use the card for small purchases (~$20 or more) because it does add up. We _always_ pay the balance in full. In the ten years I've had this card, the three of us have been able to fly free, once from the US west coast to New York, and another time to Europe. |

Personally, I never charge more than I can pay when the charge card bill comes. That way, I don't pay interest on whatever I purchased.
If you don't have to pay interest on your charge card; you can afford it. Pay the bill as soon as it arrives. |

If you HAVE to put anything on your credit card, you can't afford it!
The trick is to use your credit card like a debit card - lodge the money in advance, and only spend what you know is in there. That way, you get all the benefits and none of the pain! |

No. You just don't like to carry cash with you. |

If you have to put anything on a credit card, you shouldnt buy it!! The only exception is if you pay off your balance IN FULL every month without fail.
Credit cards are used by financial institutions to purposely lure you into debt. |

It depends on how you use your credit card. If you always pay it off at the end of the month then it doesn't matter. But if you can't afford to pay for something outright then you certainly can't afford to buy it on your credit card because that is the most expensive way to borrow money. |

Hey, live within your means I say. But theres always some time when you see something, its too good to pass up, and you haven't got enough cash on you so you put it on your card. Thats what you have them for. |

Live within your means, credit debt is the worst illness in the UK. The i want it now culture is affecting many people, who do not believe in saving. Banks love you and the credit card companies have you trapped once your in the cycle of using your credit card. Live off the money you earn, not what you have to pay back later. Keep away from over draughts, credit cards and loans. If you need money borrow from family and Friends, there is no or little interest there. |
