You can tell them not to let you so that it is declined when you try to use it (ouch, how embarrassing!) or it would be the same as a bounced check. They will let it go through and then they will charge you an overdraft fee. |

Exactly the same as if you write a check that goes over your balance. the bank will either reject the purchase or accept it and charge you for an overdraft. Which option they choose is entirely up to the bank. |

If you're trying to use your debit card, it shouldn't let you do a transaction if the money is not in your account.
Any time that you overdraw your checking account. Say, if you pay a bill and the money is not in your account, you will be charged an overdraft fee. I think it's usually around $35, but could be more. |

Well, seeing as how it's not a credit card, they give you an overdraft fee, and after a while and you don't put money back in, they can shut off your bank account, and you can end up with bad credit. |

you usually get a fine. you can avoid it by signing up for an overdraft. it makes it so if you go over you just pay it back without a fine. |

Here's how Debit cards work.Say you have $100 in your account you can only spend $100.Its not like a credit card where you can spend lots of money regardless of your account balance. Just a little note this is exactly what is going on in the USA. |

Most of the answers above are true, depending on the rules of your bank. Read the agreement you signed when you applied for the card. |

Your debit card will get declined and you will face fines at the bank and possibly from people you wrote checks to. |

Well im not sure what its called but it is this sort of insurance policy that if that ever happens, money is taken out of your savings account to make up for what money you didnt have in the checkings account. If you dont have that policy/insurance thing, you're pretty much screwed. It costs a lot of money to re-pay that. |

You get an NSF fee, depending on your checking acct options. It's just like bouncing a check.
Lastly, don't do it. |
