Hello,

(ANS) I inherited a large sum of money when my father died suddenly, it was the first time in my life I had such a sum. It was the largest check I'd ever had and I was completely thrown into turmoil thinking about what I should do with it.

The first thing I did was to open a high interest savings account & deposit the funds to keep them safe & secure whilst I tried to decide what too do. I ended up putting 97% of the funds into a pension plan. The advantage of this was that these funds received tax relief of 25% so my pension pot was boosted considerably due to this. The way the pension fund is managed is that most of the funds are NOT exposed to the turmoil of the stock market and only a very small % is.

**Be very careful my advise is DON'T invest in housing or bricks & mortar property right now, why? because house prices have peaked and house prices are just about to start (or have already started to decline) to fall. They will fall in 2008 for sure.

**If you blow your money on a holiday or fancy material goods thats short term pleasure but leaves you nothing in the long term.

**Save your money and be prepared to live a frugal life style in the next 12months as financial markets crunch & bump along the bottom of the graph. UK economy is about to go into a sharp down turn or actual recession starting in 2008. All the writing is no the wall so to speak. Thus you need a safe place to keep your funds until the economy improves in 5 or 7 years time (Probably once Gordon Brown has gone!!?). Nothing today but Jam tomorrow!! :-)

Well spent. Think of our poor people. And give something. That should not have been much. A conversation , what attention , token of affection.

first off, i would quit my mind numbing job and spend time searching for something i would much rather be doing. clear off my debts and that of my mums. that would be under 10grand so i would still have 99,000. i would fix 50grand in some sort of investment. wouldn be a hse for now. with the rest i shall buy a nice car. give my mum 20 and spend the rest on living costs for the time being till i find a job i enjoy that pays well also. come to think of it, 100 isnt really that much

I would first pay off my mum and dad's mortgage and blow the lot on me and my friends on a holiday somewhere.

If i have money left over, i would buy a car:)

Sod it
I'd use it to give my mum the best house adaptations money could buy, she has a brain disease and we need to change so many things to make life easier for her!!

Honestly speaking, i would not advise you to put your money in Bank. I rather you invest in business where you can get back your principle and interest montly.

Example: Principle amount 150000
Interest rate 3% PA
150000 x 3% = 4500 PA
If you invest for 5 years ---- 4500 x 5 years = 22500
Total amount --- 150000 + 22500 = 172500
Monthly return -- Principle + interest for 5 years
2500 + 375 = 2875

Invest with me, you will get monthly return till the end of your investment. Furthermore, there are no risk involved when investing with me. But with the bank, you can only get back your principle and interest by the end of your investment.

If you are interested the above, please do not hesitate to contact me, i am in Singapore. Email me. jeffangel@singnet.com.sg

Thank you.
Jeffrey

Spend a little, save a lot, then forget about it. The have that AMAZING feeling when you see that you have loads of money in the bank!

Don't blow it all for christ sakes you'll regret it later.Personally I'd use up all your isa tax allowances first, put the rest in several high interest savings accounts, seek good advice from a independent financial advisor before taking the plunge.Do not, i repeat ,Do not buy property at this present time,i think the housing market is reaching it's peak and you don't want to get shafted. Good Luck

I would love to say that I would go for the property idea as otherwise I will never get on that ladder. But I know me and I would say "I will just buy such and such" then I will see something else and buy that and then another thing and before you know it I would have blown it all!!!

I'd invest it in property.

Aah-Bisto
Spend a little bit of it and invest the rest maybe in property or start a new business!

Mimkat
I rent from a housing assoc & I'm happy to stay put. But I would redecorate every room, buy new furniture & get the front garden made into a driveway. Then I would book a fab holiday for my kids & I, my sister, her hubby & their daughter. After that I would probably invest for my kids.

No-body gave me any money. I'll have to think about that one, I would probably set the grandchildren up.
