should i keep the money or not?
ok i just started college got a grant which paid for most of it but i had to take out a loan which the smallest loan they had was $9,500.00 and all i needed was an extra $3000.00 so i have 6500 left over my financial advisor said i could either keep it or send it back but either way i still have to pay it back after i graduate college. But if i keep it i am suppost to use it for college stuff, which i do need a new computer and printer and a few other things, so i want an opinion should i keep it and put it in a savings account and use it just for college things or should i send it back. honest opinions please
Additional Details
the loan i took i have 10 years to pay it back with no interest

Pay it back. We see people all day long that have gotten themselves into financial troubles because they loaned more money than they were in a position to pay back. More and more, we are seeing college graduates defaulting on their student loans because they were not able to get a job upon graduating that paid enough for them to live and cover their debts (this trend was going up well before the recession hit). This gets really ugly for them because you can't discharge a student loan with a bankruptcy - you're stuck with it.

I know it sounds good to keep the money and purchase some items that may be useful, but I can promise you, that upon graduation, you will be grateful when you graduate without a huge debt load. You will have more freedom to choose what you want to do instead of having to make choices based on your need to handle your debt payments.

Good luck!

Use what you must but the more you payback now, the less you have to payback later.

They are loaning you money because of the high interest rates. So you're actually paying more to hold on to it. I'd give it back and pay off what you owe as fast as possible. Credit Unions will screw you over with the slightest mistake.

Malex
Let that money work for you. I would say keep it in a savings that will grow/give you interest on that money. Since you wont be paying interest on it for 10yrs. Whatever you do, dont buy any sort of invest. Good Luck!
