student paying $10,000 a year? can it be done?
I am currently a senior in high school and the college I would love to attend is $35,000 a year. My parents said I have to pay for the difference of the in-state school, which is about $10,000. I have about $3,000 right now, plan on working during the summer and participating in work study all four years. Plus, all scholarships I receive over the four years will go towards the money I have to pay off. Is it possible to pay off this money without creating a huge burden for myself? My parents seem to think I will be making a huge mistake, but I have faith in myself that I could do it. What do you think?

Yes, lot's of students have to shoulder the entire college cost themselves. Your parents are picking up the majority. Look into scholarships - google it - there's a website out there that you pay to see that lists more scholarships than you would ever imagine. I remember my niece looking at before she started. She's in a private college in Chicago and her tuition runs the same as yours. Lots of them are small, several hundred to a couple thousand, but they add up. She found ones because she was of Irish ancestry, because she had blue eyes, because of what she was planning to major in, because her grandfather had worked for a specific company. I'm sure your high school counselor can give you advice on this and other ways to cut your costs. Lots of times the school offers reductions to students they want to attend. Even look into summer jobs - my nephew is a caddy and they give out a scholarship covering a year's tuition each summer to one of their caddies. We also did that where I worked for the summer people. The jobs tended to be filled by children of the current employees. Maybe they offer something like that where your Mom or Dad works?

Good luck!

without creating a burden?

no

why do you need to attend a school that costs $35000 a yr? have you actually been accepted to that school? - work-study and summer work isn't going to pay a fraction of that tuition - you'll be luck to take home $2500 a summer IF you are working 40 hrs a week- do you really want to graduate being $50, 80, 100k in debt? - you might not even be able to afford to live on your own with your first job, because of the loan payments that will be with you for probably a t least 10 yrs. at least with parents plan - you could be debt free when you graduate
