It depends on which bank you visit, but anywhere you go, they will do their best to make it easy for you to open one. Usually a person is required to have two forms of ID present. You cannot have a past record of a previous bank account closing due to insufficient funds, unless you are prepared to pay that back at the time of opening the account. If you are a minor, you will need a consenting adult, who has two forms of ID present, to sign on the account with you. Most banks will open the account with anywhere between $5 to $50 as your opening deposit. |

You'll need the proper forms of identification and some money. Check out the banks and credit unions in your area to figure out which bank/CU and account match your needs the best. Their websites will list the opening requirements and the terms of the different accounts. Look for: branch location, ATM locations, monthly fees, limits on the number of transactions, online banking, etc. |
