Konoha H | 30 days notice to my landlord? |
I live in CA on a month to month basis. I just gave my landlord a 30 days notice today (June 11) but I will only be staying there until the end of the month. I gave him the notice because I believe it's the law and it is only right. However if I leave before the month of July am I still responsible to pay for the extra 11 days mentionned on my notice? If so, I gave him the 1st and last month rent + a deposit when i moved in, wouldn't he be using that last month rent? Thanks for the help!

FYI: I have already paid for the month of June in full will the last month rent I gave him apply for those 11 days in July? |

you dont have to stay the full 30 days, you can leave early, and if yor rent had been due on the 1st, better.
make arrangements to do a walk thru, at the time youll be ready to hand him the keys......take pictures, have him sign off that alls well, in writing, and that he will be returning your dep. in 30 days, and hope......
if you owe for the 11 days???then he owes you money back from that last months rent, think they stopped that last months rent, along time ago. get that in writing too....... |

In CA we don't take last months rent. It is first only and a deposit. I am not sure why you were charged for the last month. But, yes, that would then cover your last month. You owe him rent through July 11,th, however you two calculate the already paid rent. The deposit is due to you Aug 1. |

um just tell him ur leaving on juily 1st and how long should u expect for ur security deposit. see what he says, if he says u need to pay for those additonal 11 days then have him deduct it from ur security. |

Hello,
It is really up to the landlord. He can let you go or make you pay. If you are on month to month then the month that you payed for at the begining of June should cover the whole month. The landlord should have told you when you handed over the notice what his expectations for next month would be. |

It depends on what your lease says. If your landlord find a new tenant, he/she may be willing to give you the month of July back since you were good about giving notice. Also, make sure the condition of the apartment is excellent, so they have no reason to keep any extra money. If you leave before July 1, but the place is clean, rent able (as it) with no holes in the walls and even the carpet shampooed, you may find the 11 days comes back to you.
By the way, the deposit may need to be refunded WITH INTEREST, check your state laws.
Finally if you can find someone to rent the apartment for your landlord (saving him money etc.) then you may also have a better chance of getting all of July back.
