The Licensing and Management of Houses in Multiple
Occupation (Additional Provisions) (England) Regulations 2007
"2.—(1) Where all or some of the units of living accommodation in an HMO do not
contain bathing and toilet facilities for the exclusive use of each individual household—
(a) there must be an adequate number of bathrooms, toilets and wash-hand basins
suitable for personal washing) for the number of persons sharing those facilities;
and
(b) where reasonably practicable there must be a wash hand basin with appropriate
splash back in each unit other than a unit in which a sink has been provided as
mentioned in paragraph 4(1),
having regard to the age and character of the HMO, the size and layout of each flat and
its existing provision for wash-hand basins, toilets and bathrooms.â€
Phone the "HMO Officer" at your local councils housing office - they will advise on the rules for your area, and make sure things are fixed if they need to be. |

I cant tell which country you are in.
In the UK if you are renting accommodation then you premises has to be approved by the local council for renting. I don't think that eight people in a house with one bathroom is legal.
Google for your area, Rental guidelines and see if you can find a local authority that it should have been registered with.
Also if you have a lease look at the terms of it. It also depends whether they are staying there with the landlords knowledge? or are they friends of friends. If you landlord is a flatmate then it probably hasnt been registered for lease purposes.
However if this is a large family and a dwelling house as opposed to a lease then it is perfectly legal.
If you are in the UK go to your local housing and go on the housing waiting list as this will come under overcrowding and you should be allowed to apply. |

That depends, if you all share the same toothbrush then this is illegal, however if you are participating in a large hippy style love in then this is legal... you may all be at risk from Hepatitis though. |
