a lot of people do it. The utility bill is a hard item, and not much room for emergencies. You have to remember a lot of people on Social Security live on less than $600 a month. You might try to get hold of the local Section 8 people to help with the rent. |

A big part of the answer to your question will depend on where you live. In my part of the country you would be hard pressed to pay for your electric and water on $330, never mind groceries. |

I depends if you have insurance, utilities, like to eat, buy gas for a car, etc. Oh, and of course the cell phone bill too.
It sounds like you'd need a room mate. |

I would say "no". I live alone, live in a decent apartment complex (it's not a housing project), and it takes a LOT more than $330 to cover all the other expenses AFTER the rent is paid each month -- utility bills, food, gas, insurance, car payments -- I make decent money and I still struggle sometimes. |

not it you have a car!
I don't think it's practical.... even if it might be possible.
getting sick and having to pay for meds would even get you behind. i have insurance and just had a 120$ bill for meds for one month.... just to put in perspective. |

It all depends on your age, gender, location, and priorities. It's amazing what you can live on when you have to. Why do you need a phone? Are you talking home phone or cell phone? How much do you generally spend on clothes? Where do you intend to buy your clothes? If you shop around for value instead of price you can live on what you have quite nicely. It won't be easy but try to set goals for yourself. Consider a part time job or business... consider taking in a roommate... consider a lower cost apartment... consider the benefits of clipping and swapping coupons... you will get further ahead by either increasing income or reducing expenses or a sane combination of the two. Stay away from credit. You cannot repay what you don't have. Keep a journal of your expenses. Sell things you have that you don't need. Swap services with people so you can use your skills and trade for skills that your friends have. Make a list of inexpensive foods that you like so you have a continuous shopping list. Find out where the thrift shops are in your neighborhood and get to know the owners. When you have extra money put it away. Look in your trash can to make sure you are not wasting money. Think green... save money and save the environment. Turn off your lights when not in use. Carpool or bus when possible. Write on paper before you toss it. Make your own (safe) cleaning products. Use the resources of the library. Always remember, "if you can't have the best of everything, make the best of everything that you have" |

It depends what all is included in everything else. If I was poor I wouldn't own a phone but some will have a cell phone that cost $75 a month while in poverty. Utilities might cost 330 a month and food if it is a young man might cost almost that much, more if he needs beer and a car, car insurance. |
