I'm not so sure...I've heard that bankruptcy laws have changed and even though the filer gets leniency, s/he is not excused from paying back the debts.
I'm no expert -- but here's a link about the changes. |

Nah. I think they'll probably go to walmart and buy clothes and toys and groceries for the week (like $400 per family will help the economy significantly). Because everything there is made in China, the money they spend will go to China. And considering that we borrowed the money from them, anyway, the Chinese will get their loan paid back twofold. Now tell me whose economy is actually being stimulated, here. |

Conveniently the laws for declaring bankruptcy have gotten stricter in the last 10 years. I really don't know how they effect the private individual. They seem to be geared for the bigger corporations(airlines etc.) to get out of the obligations you have stated. If it's good enough for corporate America it should be good enough for the private citizens. Yeah right. As for me mine is going into savings. Because my house is paid for and I'm retired. I'm not going to stimulate anything. Even if I did. If I spend it at Walmart it goes to China. If I spend it at Target it goes to France. If I spend it on gas it goes to the Arabs. The only thing left that is American made is beer and prostitution. Enough said. |

Ya, I know where your coming from! If those people can't afford there bills what other option do they have. As for everyone saying the bankruptcy laws have changed, well ya they have but not like what you may be thinking. I had a friend who had to file last year the only thing she had to do was take an online counseling class that took about 3 days, and all her debt was paid off. So ya it could happen!
Me however, I'm using the money to help me buy a new house! |

I disagree. While there definitely a lot of people in debt and losing their homes, there are way more people who are doing just fine. I have heard so many people talking about what they plan to spend their stimulus checks on, so I think that it really will go into the economy. And I think the way that most people are, they will get $600 and think "now I can go buy that new couch set" and end up spending $1500. So, I think it really might work. I hope so because then maybe they will keep sending checks whenever things don't look too great! |

Not the least bit funny. Every person that defaults on an obligation -- I (and whoever else is a responsible, mature adult) wind up paying for. |
